Apparel Buying Tips

How we dress is a reflection of ourselves, and therefore shopping for clothes can be an emotional experience. Recent research by retail psychology expert Phillip Adcock reveals that when online clothes shopping goes wrong shoppers go through emotions similar to the key five stages of grief. Those stages are denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

The study applied uniquely to clothes shopping. To avoid the pitfalls of buying clothing, we offfer these suggestions.

Know your measurements before shopping. Buy clothes that flatter the size you are now and not the size you used to be or wish you were. Not all clothing styles will look good on all body types.

Is the apparel comfortable? No matter how attractive a piece of clothing is, if it feels uncomfortable, you won’t be likely to wear it much.

If you feel even slightly embarrassed when you first put on a piece of clothing, you’ll feel terribly embarrassed wearing it in public.

Spending money on trend pieces that you will likely no longer wear a few months down the road is a big mistake.

Don’t buy something just because it’s on sale, a common mistake. Many people have bought clothing they kinda liked simply because it was marked way down. While they felt they were getting a great deal, that’s really not the case if they wear it little or not at all.

When buying apparel, seek retailers who offer the most liberal customer satisfaction policies. When shopping online, understand the shipping charges and return policies.

Be sure to take proper care of your clothes. Avoid buying apparel that are dry clean only – and if they are, make sure you dry clean them. In the case of all clothing, make sure to follow the cleaning instructions so the clothes last longer.
